Introduction

The original aim of our census project was to provide access to the census records in full, in your own home, on both PC and Mac and at a reasonable cost. The most effective solution was to transfer these records onto CD. These images are then accessible by area and by use of the searchable Street indexes.

Marriage certificates and Post Office Directories can also help find the address of your ancestors.

Now our aim is to index and transcribe the census giving you the maximum flexibility by searching our online databases for your ancestors. The Genealogist is the home to our indexing projects and the UK Indexer is a volunteer site where specialist tools are provided to search out any rogue data. The tools provide a way of just dipping your toe into the world of indexing without committing yourself.

See our paleography/handwriting section for help with interpreting difficult writing.
