These are registers compiled from ships' official logs of births, deaths and marriages of passengers at sea by the Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen (RGSS) and its predecessor. The records range from 1854 to 1908 and include over 150,000 individuals, complete with images and full transcript.

We have added over 80,000 records to our PCC Wills and probate records. This brings the total number of records to over 540,000. NEW: We have added to our Roll of Honour Transcript the Chatham, Plymouth and Portsmouth Memorial Register 1914-1921. This online database includes over 25,000 Biographical records of Officers and men of the Royal Navy who were lost at sea and were not recorded in any cemetery or on any battlefield.
The memorials were erected at the three Home Ports which are the Manning Ports of the Royal Navy. As well as carry the names of the dead, they also serve as a “Sea-mark” or “Leading-mark” for ships entering the ports.
These printed Registers contain more detailed descriptions than are shown on the panels on the memorials. Each biography contains information on Name, Rank, Ship, Age, date of death, immediate family including address and photos.

MAJOR NEW RELEASE: Records from the General Register Office: Miscellaneous Foreign Returns, 1831-1964 (RG 32) have been added to the online service.
The records contain documents relating to births, baptisms, marriages, deaths and burials abroad, and on British as well as foreign ships, of British subjects, nationals of the colonies, the Commonwealth and countries under British jurisdiction. Events affecting some foreign nationals are also included. Records consist mainly of certificates issued by foreign registration authorities and copies of entries kept by incumbents of English churches and missions, chaplains and burial authorities. Many are in local languages and these have been translated for this service. The records also contain documents sent voluntarily by individuals to the Registrar General.
For the Second World War period some notifications of deaths of members of the British armed services, prisoners of war, civilians, internees and deaths through aircraft lost in flight are included.
The records covering deaths in Japanese and German prison internment camps include executions.
The son and grandchildren of Lord Lytton who wrote "the pen is mightier than the sword" feature in the records. His son, Edward Robert Bulwer-Lytton Secretary to The British Embassy at Vienna and became Viceroy of British India from 1876 to 1880. His granddaughter’s baptism, Constance Georgina Bulwer-Lytton, is recorded in the records; she became a suffragette who carved a V (for Votes for women) over heart while in prison.

NEW: We have added to our Roll of Honour Transcript the De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour 1914-1918. This online database includes biographies of over 25,000 men of the armed forces who lost their lives in the Great War. About 7,000 of the entries have linked photographs. The level of detail given varies due to the variety of sources used but all include the persons regiment, place and date of death. The families often lodged the biography with the publisher and these entries go into great detail about their lives. The Roll of Honour also contains the National Roll of Honour, British Roll of Honour and Bond of Sacrifice records. The number of records available to search, and view, is nearly 1,150,000.
